Police Service Dog Leads Search Following Vehicle Incident
Kranj, Slovenia – A one-and-a-half-year-old Belgian Shepherd named Šut played a crucial role in a police investigation following a traffic incident on Friday. A passenger car driver, traveling at an unadapted speed, struck a reflective fence, sliding an additional 30 meters before coming to a stop. Following the collision, the man fled the scene and attempted to evade capture by entering the Sava River.
Upon arrival, police reported observing a shadow disappearing into the surrounding bushes. Utilizing a service dog, Šut, to pinpoint the suspect’s direction. The police courageously led Šut along the steep and overgrown bank of the Sava River.
The dog began to bark, indicating that the man was moving towards the opposite side of the river. Šut, affectionately known as a “puppy” by his handler, is relatively new to field experience. Assistant Commander Peter Pekolj stated, “Šut’s keen sense of smell and focused behavior were instrumental in guiding the police to the location of the man who was involved in the initial incident.” The investigation is ongoing.
