A significant snow avalanche took place at 11:40 AM, reaching an altitude of 2445 meters along the ridge connecting the Ridanna and Racines valleys (Flading-Vallettina). Twenty-five skiers were unexpectedly caught in the event while traversing the slope. Rai News reported the incident.
Fortunately, the majority of the trapped individuals were merely displaced by the falling snow. These skiers were outfitted with ARTVA devices, designed to facilitate the location of buried persons beneath the snow. Initially, their condition remained uncertain, requiring careful assessment.
The rescue operation involved a coordinated effort, with five helicopters and specialized rescue teams actively engaged. To bolster the response, the operational center in Innsbruck was activated, and requests for available beds in intensive care units were made at hospitals in Merano, Bolzano, and Bressanone. Five helicopters and rescue teams continued to support the ongoing efforts.
The situation demanded immediate attention, and the teams worked diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected skiers following the devastating avalanche.
