Forest fires in Italy and the Netherlands have required extensive interventions

Fire Containment Advances on Mount Faeta

Firefighters have made significant progress in containing the fire on Mount Faeta, reducing the affected area to approximately 70%, according to RaiNews. Efforts are now focused on complete extinguishment of the blaze, anticipated to occur overnight or the following day. The fire, which originated in the Lucce area, rapidly spread towards the slope of Pisa and posed a threat to settlements within the municipalities of San Giuliano Terme and Asciano.

As a precautionary measure, approximately 3,500 residents were evacuated. Responding to the emergency, firefighters utilized ground crews supported by drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras, alongside helicopters and four Canadair aircraft. The blaze has impacted an estimated 710 hectares of land, primarily consisting of forest.

Following coordinated efforts with the regional prefecture and firefighting units, authorities reported an improvement in the situation, enabling the majority of evacuees to return to their residences. Currently, only a small number – around thirty families – remain temporarily housed on the northern ridge of the mountain. The situation is being continuously monitored as firefighters continue their work to fully extinguish the fire.
