Who are the most likely candidates for ministers in the new government of Janez Janša?

Slovenian Political Parties Vie for Ministerial Positions Following PM Appointment

Following consultations with President Nataša Pirc Musar, several Slovenian political parties are vying for key ministerial roles within the new government. Janez Janša, the country’s prime minister, is currently finalizing appointments across various portfolios. Andrej Šircelj, the current finance minister, remains a leading candidate for a senior ministerial position.

Igor Mastner, representing the Democrats (DeSUS), is also considered a strong contender for the role. Anže Logar, former foreign minister and leader of the NSi, is being considered for the position of economic minister, a role which would also encompass social dialogue – a responsibility Logar has expressed reservations about. Jernej Vrtovec, the leader of the NSi, is reportedly being considered for the minister for infrastructure, with energy also a significant area of focus.

Competition is anticipated for the role of health minister, with Tadej Ostrc, a member of the Democratic Party (SDS), and Tina Bregant, the president of the SLS, identified as potential candidates. Bregant could also be considered for the traditional SLS portfolio of agriculture. Monika Kirbiš Rojs, from the quota Fok movement, is also under consideration.

The process of selecting the minister who will hold these key positions is ongoing as Janez Janša continues to consult with party leaders.
