Lebanese Journalist Killed, Colleague Wounded in Israeli Strike
In At-Tiri, southern Lebanon, a Lebanese journalist, Amal Halil of the Al Ahbar newspaper, was killed following an Israeli attack. Her colleague, Zeinab Faraj, sustained injuries. The Al Ahbar newspaper confirmed Halil’s death.
According to reports, Halil had taken refuge in a house after an earlier attack targeting a vehicle in the area. The Lebanese Civil Protection, via Al Jazeera, indicated that the journalist was discovered after an airstrike on the residence. The National News Agency (NNA) reported that the attack resulted in the deaths of the mayor of the nearby city of Bint Džbeil and another individual traveling in the vehicle.
Subsequently, Israeli forces targeted the house where the journalist was sheltering. A representative from the Lebanese Red Cross confirmed Halil’s death to AFP. The incident underscores the ongoing situation following the attack after which the journalist sought refuge.
Investigations are underway regarding the circumstances surrounding the death.
