The highest people in the world are not Dutch: the record is held by the Balkans

Comprehensive Study Reveals Tallest Individuals in the Western Balkans

A recently published study in the scientific journal Biology has revealed a surprising finding about human height within the Western Balkans. Led by researcher Pavel Grasgruber and an international team of experts, the research analyzed data from 47,158 individuals across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, and Kosovo. The data, now publicly accessible through the PubMed database, represents one of the most extensive height analyses conducted in Europe in recent decades, according to Masaryk University.

The study focused on systematic measurements of young people, specifically 18-year-olds. The findings demonstrate that the tallest 18-year-old people are located within the Balkans region. This comprehensive study challenges previous assumptions about height distribution globally.

Researchers meticulously examined the data to understand height variations across the region. The research highlights a significant population of exceptionally tall individuals residing within the Balkans. Further investigation into the genetic and environmental factors contributing to this height variation is ongoing.

The study underscores the importance of continued research into human biological diversity among the people of the Balkans.
