A 57-year-old was given a conditional sentence for a fire in the Kranjska Gora Majdič’s mill

The prosecution alleges that Vlad Doder initiated a fire at the abandoned Madyčev mill on September 26, 2022, where he resided as a homeless individual within an old wood stove. Notably, the stove was not connected to a chimney. He left the stove door ajar, allowing the resulting fire to rapidly spread throughout the entire building’s interior and extend to the control room of the nearby hydroelectric power plant.

As prosecutor Nadja Gasser emphasized, Doder confessed to the destruction of the monument-protected mill in Kranj. He should have recognized the significant danger posed by fire. His actions placed the lives of residents in a neighboring residential building at risk and caused substantial material damage to those individuals, as well as the owners of the Madyčev mill and the power plant.

During a preliminary hearing in December of last year, Doder admitted his guilt regarding the fire. The incident involved a stove, a mill, and a serious threat to public safety.
