Kaja Kajzer Reflects on Fifth Place Finish at Competition
Slovenian competitor Kaja Kajzer expressed disappointment following her fifth-place finish at the recent competition, losing to Ivo Oberan of Croatia in a closely contested final. The victory for Oberan was secured in a 22-second sprint, marking a decisive win. “After such performances and considering which competitors I defeated, I am disappointed with fifth place,” Kajzer stated, visibly affected.
She detailed the circumstances of the loss, explaining that she “didn’t even know how I fell first, second time I fell because I had to risk going in and it was.”
Kajzer’s struggles stemmed, in part, from a fighting style that didn’t align with her strengths, despite diligent preparation. She acknowledged the influence of her mentor, Luke Kuralta, who previously achieved success against the same opponent in all three official encounters. The day began with Kajzer’s successful defeat of twice-European champion Renata, requiring 9:22 minutes to secure the victory.
The competition concluded with Oberan’s triumphant final jump.
