The expert’s advice: to demolish the old house or to renovate it?

Many Slovene homes hold a unique history, largely constructed after World War II with a rapid, though sometimes unplanned, building boom. Modern lifestyles now demand different levels of comfort and present new challenges for these older properties. These include concerns about energy efficiency, adapting to increasingly frequent heat waves, and ensuring healthy indoor air quality.

The Baumit podcast, “Revitalize the View of Living,” explores these issues, focusing on how to enhance the comfort and long-term value of older buildings through careful renovation. Dr. Miha Tomšič, a specialist in living environments, building physics, and energy efficiency from the Building Institute ZRMK, serves as a key guest on the podcast.

Dr. Tomšič’s central message is that renovations should not be undertaken casually. He emphasizes that homeowners should avoid simply replicating existing renovations, regardless of what others have done.
