The revitalization of Maribor’s Lent district is generating considerable local pride. Residents are expressing satisfaction with the area’s recent development, particularly its continued evolution towards the city’s castle. Lent’s transformation has been a significant undertaking, focusing on the district’s historic core, widely considered Maribor’s most beautiful area.
The name “Lent” originates from the Old German term “Lände,” signifying a landing point. Historically, this location served as a crucial hub for river traffic and rafting along the Drava River. For decades, however, Lent fell into disrepair and was heavily impacted by automobile traffic, dominating the space directly adjacent to the river within the Styrian capital.
Recognizing the area’s potential, the city recently initiated a comprehensive renovation project. As a result, Lent is now exclusively designated for pedestrian and bicycle use. This change aims to restore the area to its historical function as a vibrant, accessible space for residents and visitors alike.
