Police personnel in the Portorož hinterland managed a significant traffic incident on Sunday afternoon. According to Loris Čendak of the Koper police department, officers were deployed around noon to manage severe congestion in the Mali area. Čendak reported that while traffic flow through the Parecag section was heavy, it was still moving.
However, the situation escalated when the road in Mali became completely blocked at approximately 12:55 due to the presence of numerous motorhomes and trailers. The police responded to the scene to clear the blockage and manage the resulting traffic disruption. During their intervention, officers addressed several foreign drivers who were found to be operating vehicles in violation of local restrictions meant for community traffic.
The enforcement action resulted in multiple citations. The drivers involved, identified by their ages as 56, 34, 49, and 69, were issued fines for disregarding the designated routes. The police confirmed that all individuals cited paid the necessary penalties.
The incident highlights the challenges of managing high volumes of recreational vehicles in localized hinterland areas, requiring the police to actively regulate traffic flow to maintain safety and accessibility for local residents.
