Authorities ordered nine members of the group to be detained in custody by the investigating magistrate in Trieste, with 14 others placed under house arrest. Italian media reported that the drug trafficking ring operated across the areas of Trieste, Gorizia, and Videm. The group was reportedly led by a Slovenian national identified as Elvis Livadić.
Livadić, a resident of Ljubljana, was previously sentenced to 16 years in prison for the murder of a local man with a katana at a club in Maribor in 2007. Following the completion of his 16-year sentence, Livadić drew renewed attention in 2017 while incarcerated at the Dob prison. The investigation highlights the extensive reach of the criminal enterprise, which was dismantled through coordinated efforts by the Italian police.
