The first accident took place late Friday night when a light four-wheel drive vehicle breached a roadblock and became lodged in a deep construction pit, with the front end submerged. The 64-year-old driver, identified as a resident of Peuerbach, was trapped inside and required rescue efforts before being transferred to emergency personnel.
Police reports indicated that alcohol consumption was a contributing factor to this initial accident. A second incident transpired several hours later, near 8:00 AM. In this instance, a 72-year-old woman from the Schärding district drove into the same construction pit.
She was able to exit the vehicle herself, after which firefighters managed to extract the automobile from the pit area. Firefighters noted that this individual had disregarded posted road signs and established roadblocks prior to the collision. These repeated occurrences in the active construction area prompted questions regarding adherence to safety protocols.
The incidents underscore the risks associated with unauthorized vehicle access to sites undergoing construction work.
