Surface water conditions across Slovenia are currently marked by generally low water levels, with reports indicating that low water conditions are present at more than half of the regional measurement stations. According to the Arso, the situation remains concerning, noting that extremely low water conditions have been recorded at approximately 10 percent of the stations for August. The most significantly affected rivers identified are the Mura and the Drava.
Furthermore, data concerning the average 30-day flows for several major waterways—including the Mura, Drava, Soča, Ljubljanica, Sava, and Krka in their upper courses—show that the current readings are below the lowest average flows documented during the reference period of 1991–2020. This pattern of diminished water volume is widespread. Most other rivers monitored also exhibit average 30-day flows that fall below the lowest historical averages recorded against the 1991–2020 baseline.
These findings underscore a sustained period of low water levels across the Slovenian river network, impacting multiple tributaries and general water resource management.
