Firefighters in Izola saved a sleeping man and put out a night fire in the workshop

Crime investigators and police officers from the Koper police department are currently investigating the site to determine the precise cause of a significant night fire. The blaze occurred around 2 a.m. in the industrial zone, specifically near the first exit from the highway leading to the Markovec tunnel.

According to reports, the fire originated at an auto repair shop located at Polje. The structure was reportedly filled with various paints and chemicals, materials that significantly accelerated the spread of the fire. Initial accounts suggest the flames first destroyed a parked personal vehicle before quickly engulfing the main building.

The initial calls reporting the fire located the incident at the Markovec tunnel area. Firefighters were deployed to manage the emergency. Unofficial sources indicated that resources included eight vehicles and twelve firefighters from the Koper fire brigade, supplemented by an additional twelve firefighters from the same brigade.

These efforts culminated in the successful containment of the fire by 3:15 a.m. The police department continues its investigation into the incident. The presence of flammable chemicals within the facility is believed to be a major contributing factor to the intensity and rapid spread of the fire throughout the night.

Authorities remain on site as they work to establish the definitive cause of the destructive event.
