Caution: robbery on the Portorož beach

The incidence of thefts tends to rise during the summer season, correlating with the increased presence of tourists. Law enforcement agencies frequently encounter foreign nationals in connection with reported cases of theft. According to authorities, these thefts are often not the work of opportunistic, individual criminals but rather are perpetrated by organized foreign groups.

Simona Šare indicated that investigations suggest that organized groups originating from foreign countries, particularly Italy and Croatia, are frequently involved in criminal activities, sometimes using theft as a means of subsistence. She also noted an upward trend in the statistics concerning detained thieves. In addition to addressing property crime, police presence at coastal areas emphasizes preventive safety measures.

For over two decades, police have maintained a visible presence among bathers, offering advice on basic self-protection. Annually, officers patrol the beaches, interacting directly with vacationers to provide warnings and guidance. A key focus of these efforts is alerting visitors to the inherent dangers associated with the sea.

This dual approach aims to mitigate risks both from human criminal activity, such as thefts, and from the natural environment.
