The Golica hut in trouble: the load-carrying cable of the cable car has broken

The Planinsko društvo Jesenice recently completed renovations at the Koča na Golici entrance, a project they reported was finished through voluntary labor and material transport. However, the celebration was interrupted by a significant operational incident involving the area’s cable car system. During subsequent operation, the system experienced a failure when the main load cable broke at the upper anchorage point.

According to reports, the failure resulted in the severed cable striking the upper station structure with considerable force. The cable wrapped around a support column, leading to a tool basket crashing into the depths of the mechanism. Despite the alarming nature of the equipment failure, authorities confirmed that no injuries were sustained by the public.

The operator of the cable car, identified as Nejc, was the sole individual injured during the incident. The event highlights the inherent risks associated with operating complex machinery, even following structural improvements. While the initial focus was on the successful completion of the renovation, the unexpected failure of the primary load cable required immediate attention from operational staff.

The incident underscores the critical importance of safety protocols and equipment integrity when carrying passengers and materials via such systems. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the failure point of the cable to prevent any recurrence.
