The search for the Austrian skipper continues: by plane, helicopter and drone

An incident occurred yesterday morning off the southern coast of Šolta island following extremely unfavorable weather conditions characterized by strong winds and rough seas. The accident involved a 46-year-old Austrian skipper who reportedly fell into the sea while sailing a catamaran after going to secure the rope around the propeller. The vessel’s crew immediately threw a rope toward the missing individual, but high waves quickly obscured their location.

Six Austrian citizens were aboard the catamaran; all were later located unharmed. The group was provided with a replacement skipper by a charter company and successfully continued to their intended destination. While the weather conditions were already challenging at the time of the incident and worsened throughout the day, reports indicate that Croatian authorities have not yet taken any official action regarding the event.

The situation highlighted the inherent dangers presented by the open sea under adverse maritime conditions.
