Minister for Education, Science and Youth, Borut Rončević, stated that the projected shortfall by the end of the fiscal year is estimated at approximately 133 million euros. The Minister noted that this deficit is substantial, emphasizing that the funds are not designated for new projects or increased departmental ambitions.
The financial gap presents specific challenges across different educational sectors. The largest component of the identified shortfall relates to primary and secondary schooling, accounting for 111.6 million euros of the deficit. In the domain of higher education, the estimated shortfall is 21.3 million euros.
This figure comprises several distinct obligations. A significant portion of this is allocated to legal funding requirements for higher education, totaling 20 million euros. Furthermore, an additional 1.3 million euros is required to support research infrastructure designated for FAIR initiatives.
The overall financial situation necessitates immediate attention from the ministry. The scale of the required funds, measured in the tens and hundreds of millions of euros, indicates a considerable gap between budgeted allocations and operational needs across the educational spectrum.
