At approximately 8:18 p.m., local authorities in Koper were notified by Italian security services regarding the theft of a Ford Ranger, which bore Italian registration plates and was reported stolen in Bologna. Tracking via GPS indicated the stolen car was moving towards Slovenia. Slovenian police located the vehicle near Dutovlje and initiated efforts to stop the driver.
However, the driver failed to respond to official signals, accelerating rapidly towards Štanjel, reportedly exceeding 150 km/h. The pursuit continued towards Kostanjevica, where the vehicle was observed traveling in the opposite lane, creating significant hazards for other road users. The suspect vehicle then fled past Opatje selo and crossed the border into Italy.
Slovenian police maintained pursuit, and the OCC immediately notified Italian security services of the situation. Upon entering Italian territory, the car made a reversal and resumed its journey back towards Slovenia. Throughout this return leg, the vehicle executed several sharp and unpredictable turns as the pursuit continued.
