The Kešpret family in Velika Gabra has integrated electric vehicles into their daily routine, with two cars covering an estimated 70,000 kilometers annually. These vehicles utilize solar power generated from their roof for charging, leading to significant operational cost reductions. Matija Kešpret noted the substantial financial advantage, estimating annual savings of €5,000 to €6,000 on the vehicle costs alone, plus an additional €2,500 due to reduced overall mileage.

He contrasted this with diesel expenses, which previously averaged around €10 per 100 kilometers, highlighting a clear economic difference. However, the feasibility of such cost savings is heavily dependent on housing infrastructure. The current model, which facilitates cheap, green driving, relies on vehicle owners possessing their own residences and dedicated charging stations.

Mobility expert Andrej Brglez cautioned that residents living in multi-unit blocks face a markedly different financial landscape. He warned that reliance on public charging infrastructure significantly increases operational expenses. Brglez pointed out that while subsidized electric cars can be purchased, the cost structure changes substantially when charging must occur via public networks, making the savings realized by homeowners difficult to replicate for apartment dwellers.

The contrast underscores that while the environmental benefits of these green vehicles are clear, the total cost of ownership remains tied closely to private charging access and local infrastructure.
