Maritime police in Rijeka documented over 50 instances of law infringement concerning the use of inflatable boats within a 300-meter zone off the coast last week. According to the Croatian public broadcaster HRT, this activity represents the most frequently cited violation on the sea during the summer season. Dražen Šarčević, assistant chief of the maritime police for the Primorsko-Goranska police administration, specified that the highest number of violations occurred under the bridge on Krk and in the vicinity of Rab island.
He noted that enforcement activity was lower near the Rijeka aquarium due to fewer vessels operating in that area. The data also revealed a significant trend, as fines issued for the use of inflatable boats rose by 40 percent compared to the previous year. Šarčević attributed the increased police attention and the higher number of infractions to safety concerns.
He stated that there were more reported injuries and an increase in incidents involving collisions between inflatable boats and swimmers utilizing the coast. These findings underscore the ongoing focus of the police on public safety regulations in high-traffic maritime areas.
