In late June, he announced a solution involving a traffic signal system activated by water depth within the deepest sections of the city’s infrastructure.
Specifically, he stated that when water reached a predetermined height, a red light would illuminate, signaling a mandatory wait period of ten to fifteen minutes. Several days later, a prototype of this system was observed at the underpass located on Tivoli Street. The site was marked with new signage, featuring colored indicators of red, yellow, and green, alongside visible water level gauges.
Local observers noted the presence of the advanced signaling mechanism. The implementation suggests a direct response to recurring flooding issues within the city’s underpasses. The new traffic light system is designed to provide real-time hazard warnings, managing traffic flow when sections become significantly flooded.
The color-coded signs indicate the operational status relative to water levels, allowing drivers to assess immediate safety risks before proceeding through the underpass.
