Perez: Collaboration with Verstappen was the hardest challenge

Sergio Perez discussed the dynamics of his career in a recent appearance on the High Performance podcast, acknowledging the high level of engineering talent surrounding him. Reflecting on his tenure with Red Bull, Perez noted that while the team possesses exceptional engineering resources, he consciously chose a path of acceptance over complaint. Perez served as a teammate to Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing for four seasons, spanning from 2021 through 2024.

During this period, the Mexican driver contributed significantly to the team’s success, securing five race wins and playing a notable part in the championship victories achieved in 2021, 2022, and 2023. However, the 2024 season proved challenging for Perez. Following the 2024 season, Perez’s seat for the 2025 season was relinquished, a position that had initially been slated for Liam Lawson.

The relationship between Perez and Verstappen spanned these four competitive years. The discussion highlighted the contrasting career trajectories of the two drivers, particularly as Perez navigated the changes in team composition and performance expectations after his time alongside Verstappen concluded.
