The Slovenian Consumer Association has issued guidelines regarding the proper and economical use of air conditioning units during high summer temperatures. The association recommends setting the indoor room temperature to no more than six to eight degrees Celsius lower than the outdoor temperature. For instance, if the outside temperature reaches 32 or 33 degrees Celsius, users are advised to set the air conditioner to a maximum of 24 or 25 degrees Celsius.
These guidelines emphasize that maintaining appropriate indoor temperatures is crucial for health. Furthermore, the association noted that for every degree above 25 degrees Celsius, there can be an estimated annual saving of 6 to 8 percent on electricity costs. To optimize energy consumption, the Consumer Association suggests utilizing remote controls when available.
Users should activate the air conditioner at least one hour before returning home. The advice provided indicates that the unit consumes less energy when operating for an extended period at a slightly higher temperature, compared to running for a shorter duration at maximum capacity. The optimal settings, therefore, involve balancing comfort levels with energy efficiency when comparing indoor air temperatures to outdoor conditions.
