The United States military, through its Middle East command, reported conducting strikes against storage facilities belonging to Iran, specifically targeting drone and missile caches. In conjunction with these reports, US military officials stated that actions taken by Iran against commercial vessels constitute a violation of a ceasefire agreement. Amid heightened tensions, the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UKMTO) issued a notification yesterday regarding an unknown projectile attack on a ship sailing near the coast of Oman.
While the incident resulted in damage to the vessel, no casualties were reported. In response to the maritime event, US President Donald Trump characterized the incident as a “stupid violation of the ceasefire.”
Following the attack, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which operates under the UN, suspended planned evacuations for approximately 600 ships and 11,000 crew members from the region. It was noted that the ship involved in the recent incident was not operating under the scope of the IMO’s evacuation plan.
The escalation follows ongoing reports concerning regional maritime security and tensions involving Iran.
