Vlatko Čančar will be absent for the upcoming matches against Estonia and Sweden. According to Aleksander Sekulić, the Slovenian national team coach, Čančar is currently under scrutiny because he sustained a knee injury just before the start of preparations, meaning he is not fully fit for the demanding matches. “We decided not to take any risks if he is not 100 percent ready, as we have had poor experiences in the past,” the selector stated.
He also noted that Ščuko is still dealing with an old ankle injury. Furthermore, Klemen Prepelič will be unavailable for the initial qualification match and the Saturday preparatory game against Italy due to personal matters, as previously announced by the coach. Due to these absences, Sekulić has made several changes to the squad.
The coaching staff prioritized caution regarding the players’ fitness levels, especially given the timing of the injuries. The decision to keep Čančar sidelined until he is fully recovered reflects a commitment to long-term squad health rather than immediate participation in the upcoming fixtures. These adjustments aim to ensure the team fields its most reliable players for the critical upcoming matches.
