US Southern Command Conducts Strike Against Vessel in Pacific Ocean

The US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced a military operation on Sunday targeting a vessel traveling on a recognized smuggling route in the eastern Pacific Ocean. The incident, part of the ongoing “Southern Spear” operation, occurred prior to September of last year when the initiative commenced. According to SOUTHCOM, the attack involved a strike against the unidentified boat.

While the precise nature of the vessel’s cargo remains unconfirmed, authorities report that at least two individuals were confirmed deceased following the engagement. Six survivors were subsequently located and contacted by the US Coast Guard. Details regarding the rescue efforts and the survivors’ current medical condition have not been released.

A video documenting the event, released by the command, depicts the vessel prior to the strike and the subsequent explosion. The “Southern Spear” operation has resulted in the targeting of over 60 vessels to date. Since its inception, more than 210 people have been reported dead as a result of these operations.

SOUTHCOM continues to monitor maritime activity within the Pacific region.
