President Musar Commemorates Medvedjek Memorial Park, Highlights Civic Contributions
Trebnje, Slovenia – President Nataša Pirc Musar visited the Medvedjek Memorial Park near Trebnje, a site of significant battles during Slovenia’s independence war against the Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA). She described the park as a symbol of selflessness, determination, and courage in establishing an independent, sovereign state. Musar emphasized the profound personal responsibility and risks undertaken by individuals who participated in the battles at the park or supported the defense efforts across Slovenia.
She specifically acknowledged the contributions of a broad range of individuals, including members of the Territorial Defense, militia, medical personnel, road workers, construction crews, and representatives from railway and economic associations. Furthermore, she recognized the roles of civil protection volunteers, radio amateurs, and drivers. “It is right to remember the actions of one of these groups,” Musar stated, “and all those who bravely defended our nation.” The memorial serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made during this pivotal period in Slovenia’s history.
The President underscored the importance of honoring the service and dedication of those involved in the defense efforts. The visit concluded with a reflection on the enduring values of freedom and independence that the memorial represents.
