Slovenian Premier Calls for Immediate Implementation of New Migration Rules
Slovenian Premier Janez Janša has urged European Union leaders to swiftly enact new regulations concerning irregular migration, co-signing a call for immediate implementation. Janša stated, “Because one thing is if we have the rules, another thing is whether they are actually implemented or not. The purpose of this letter is for the word to become flesh.”
The initiative follows the European Parliament’s adoption of a resolution, widely considered the most significant tightening of migration policy in recent decades.
The order, which was met with considerable debate between political factions during Wednesday’s vote, outlines measures to accelerate the return of irregular migrants. Specifically, the resolution includes provisions for expedited repatriation, utilizing centers established in third countries. Janša characterized the move as “the end of social tourism.” The letter emphasizes the need for rapid action and adherence to the established timeframe for implementation.
Janša’s call highlights the critical distinction between establishing migration rules and ensuring their practical application. The document serves as a direct appeal to EU leaders to prioritize and execute the outlined strategies.
