Reduction of energy taxes as a possible measure to alleviate the crisis

The duration of elevated oil prices, stemming from the worsening geopolitical climate, remains uncertain. However, as Minister of the Environment, Climate and Energy Bojan Kumer stated following discussions at the Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia (GZS), proactive preparation for adverse scenarios is crucial. This necessitates maintaining sufficient reserves to enable swift action upon their necessity.

Kumer emphasized that Slovenia has already implemented various measures concerning petroleum derivatives. Primarily, excise taxes have been adjusted, effectively lessening the impact of rising fuel costs for consumers. Furthermore, the government has undertaken market structural interventions and initiated the release of strategic fuel reserves.

Slovenia is actively engaged at the European Union level, collaborating on broader energy strategies. The minister acknowledged the current challenge regarding limited fuel reserves held by Petrol. The government’s response underscores a commitment to immediate action and a strategic approach to mitigating the effects of volatile energy markets.

Continued vigilance and coordinated efforts are vital to ensure a robust response and a potential reduction in price pressures. Preparing for the worst allows for a faster, more effective reaction to any unforeseen circumstances.
