Janša on economic strengthening: We have a tough job ahead

Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša is attending a two-day meeting of EU heads of state and government, with a key focus on bolstering Slovenia’s competitiveness. Janša emphasized that strengthening the economy is a crucial element of the government’s coalition agreement and a significant challenge. Following the release of the Institute for Management Development’s (IMD) global competitiveness ranking, Slovenia secured 49th place out of 70 countries, a decline of three positions from the previous year.

The ranking highlights areas requiring improvement. Slovenia’s strongest performance was in infrastructure, while it experienced a significant drop in business efficiency and government efficiency. Janša cited the IMD results as informing his approach to the upcoming EU summit.

He acknowledged the considerable job ahead in addressing these weaknesses and improving Slovenia’s overall competitiveness. The government’s strategy centers on enhancing economic performance, recognizing it as a fundamental prerequisite for a successful Slovenia. Janša remains confident in the government’s ability to tackle these challenges.
