With the beginning of July, higher prices for one-way and return train tickets

Slovenian Railways Announce Fare Adjustments to Modernize Transport System

The Slovenian Railways (SŽ) has announced a revised fare system designed to streamline operations, integrate with broader public transport networks, and promote rail passenger usage. This marks the first adjustment to train prices since 2014. The changes are intended to encourage continued reliance on rail transport.

SŽ stated that one-way and return tickets will see an average increase of 16 percent in prices. The railway operator explained that this adjustment reflects a substantial rise in long-term railway passenger transport costs over the past decade. These increased costs are largely attributed to escalating infrastructure expenses associated with rail transport.

“Even after the introduction of these new prices, train tickets will remain competitive and among the most affordable forms of public transport for many passengers,” SŽ representatives affirmed. The revised system aims to better align with integrated public passenger transport, facilitating seamless journeys across various modes. The adjustments to transport prices are a direct response to the growing operational costs of the rail network.

SŽ emphasized the importance of maintaining affordable transport options while addressing the financial realities of operating the country’s train system.
