Brazilian authorities in the state of Santa Catarina are investigating the case of 38-year-old Amanda Marie Souza de Oliveira, who is accused of fraud and false identity. Under a false identity, she allegedly entered the life of a couple from the city of Joinville, where she lived for almost 16 months, reports The Guardian. According to the prosecution, she initially claimed to be a full-fledged adult, but later allegedly persuaded the family that she was in fact a barely 11-year-old girl who was running away from her violent father, who was allegedly abusing her and forcing her to eat hormones.
She gained their trust by using emotional stories, for which she was paid for all the expenses, got her host family to arrange a nursery for her, and even arranged a birthday celebration for her.
