Dick Advocaat, the coach of the Curacao national team, is one of four teams that will compete in the World Cup for the first time this year. The former Dutch colony will experience its first fiery baptism, and the first obstacle will be the German team, which of course is interested in winning at every World Cup. The Caribbean country, which is officially still part of the Netherlands, will be led by the experienced Dick Advocaat.
The green 78-year-old will be the oldest coach at this World Cup. Advocaat has experience on the world stage. In 1994, he led the Netherlands at the World Cup in the United States.
Despite the relative football exoticism, Curacao has some players in its ranks who have left their mark in the strongest European leagues. The first goalkeeper Eloy Room has also defended the colors of the Netherlands during his career.
