The Italian coach Alessio Orefice’s selected players have successfully started the European League with three wins. In the first tournament in Montenegro’s Bar, they defeated Montenegro and Georgia, and in the home arena in Vižmarje Brod, the Icelandic national team fell. In all three matches, the Slovenian players did not give up a single set, which further attests to the strength and quality of our national team.
The difference in quality in all matches was obvious, and at the same time, our volleyball players have an additional desire to reach the top four places, which leads to the final tournament. In the last year’s shortened version of the then Golden European League, the Slovenian players finished fifth with four wins and two losses, and thus missed the final tournament by a hair’s breadth.
