Will the accident in Suzuki be one of those that change safety regulations?

Ollie Bearman attributed his significant speed advantage, approximately 50 kilometers per hour, to the recently implemented regulations. Simultaneously, he noted a limited amount of available space stemming from this increased velocity. Following a violent crash, Bearman sustained a knee injury and exited the vehicle, thankfully without significant harm.

The footage of the accident, triggered by the substantial disparity in speed during an attempted overtake, shocked fellow competitors. Many racers had previously cautioned about the potential for such incidents before the season’s commencement. Bearman’s Suzuki car was severely damaged after the forceful collision.

Carlos Sainz commented on the situation, stating, “The inevitability of such an accident was a question of time. It was a serious accident, and we had anticipated it.” He further emphasized that current vehicles incorporate engines capable of this level of speed. Sainz added, “There isn’t a single solution to address this problem; it’s due to the inherent nature of the technology.” The event highlighted the dangers associated with excessive speed and the need for careful consideration of racing regulations.
