Fie commissioners annulled Gasly’s penalties and returned him to the podium

Alpine Files Re-Examination Following Pit Stop Speed Infringement Investigation

Following the conclusion of the recent race, Alpine immediately requested a re-examination of the speed infringement allegations leveled against driver Pierre Gasly. The team presented evidence indicating Gasly maintained a speed of no more than 60 km/h throughout the race, with reserves in place to ensure compliance. A Thursday re-examination was convened to review the request.

The official timekeeper for Formula 1, FOM, acknowledged an error in the measurement process utilized during pit stops. This error directly impacted the calculation of average speeds. Specifically, the measuring loop at the entrance to the pit stops was found to be 77 centimeters shorter than the intended standard.

This discrepancy resulted in inflated speed calculations for all drivers, including Gasly. The initial investigation relied on this inaccurate measuring data. The re-examination process confirmed the error, leading to a revised assessment of Gasly’s speed during the pit stops.

Other racers had already served their penalties related to the initial infraction. Further examination is ongoing to determine the full implications of the measurement error.
