The incinerator in Ljubljana? Non-governmental organizations warn about transparency

A coalition of civil society groups, non-governmental organizations, independent specialists, and political figures recently convened in Ljubljana to address critical issues surrounding waste incineration. The joint initiative aims to illuminate key uncertainties, foster informed discussion among experts, and propose innovative solutions to this complex challenge. Architect Arne Vehovar underscored the significance of the situation, noting the recent closure of the application period for the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy’s selection process.

This process sought to identify concessionaires responsible for the public service of incinerating municipal waste from the cities of Ljubljana, Maribor, and Celje. As anticipated, three companies based in these three municipalities submitted their bids. The head of the selection commission anticipates that the outcome will be announced before the end of the summer season.

Following the release of the results, the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy will receive a detailed report. This collaborative effort represents a vital step in ensuring transparent and well-considered decisions regarding waste management within these civil society contexts.
