Veteran Sherpa Found Alive After Six Days on Mount Everest
A 75-year-old Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa – also known as Hillary Dawa Sherpa – was found alive on Mount Everest following six days of survival efforts. The rescue occurred after workers were collecting garbage on the mountain when they spotted the exhausted and injured climber. Dawa Sherpa was located between the third and fourth camps at an altitude of approximately 7,500 meters.
He was suffering from the effects of extreme cold and sustained injuries, but was confirmed to be alive. “I didn’t believe I would survive. I thought I would die up there,” Sherpa told BBC following his rescue.
Chris Thrall, a British mountaineer and former soldier, confirmed he was last seen sitting on a backpack and resting. “It was nothing unusual,” Thrall stated. The discovery represents a remarkable event, described by experienced mountaineers as a miracle.
Shortly after Thrall’s observation, attention shifted to another member of the expedition – a Polish mountaineer who was without supplemental oxygen. The rescue operation involved significant effort and highlighted the inherent dangers of high-altitude climbing.
