Submission at the Police: what does the new boss predict?

Government Appoints Danijel Lorbek as Acting Police Director

The Slovenian government removed Damjan Petrič from his role as police general director following a session on Thursday and appointed Danijel Lorbek as the acting police director. Lorbek’s appointment takes effect on the 20th. Lorbek is a seasoned career police officer who previously served as the director of the uniformed police administration within the General Police Directorate (GPU) during the third government of Janez Janša.

Speaking shortly after his appointment, Lorbek stated, “My task is to ensure that the police continue to operate successfully, professionally, and legally in the future.” He outlined key priorities for his role, with a particular focus on addressing the current staff situation within the police force. Lorbek intends to minimize departures of active police officers, specifically targeting reasons for departures that can be resolved. He characterized the existing career system as “completed,” acknowledging potential minor adjustments may be necessary.

The government’s decision reflects a focus on stability and continued operational effectiveness for the police. Lorbek’s appointment signifies a shift in leadership for the police service.
