Šircelj Returns to Finance Ministry Role Following Previous Tenure

Andrej Šircelj has been appointed to the position of finance minister, leveraging extensive prior experience within the Ministry of Finance. Šircelj previously served as the minister from 2020 to 2022, a period during which he also held the role of State Secretary. This marks his fifth time working within the finance ministry.

Speaking before the committee of the DZ for Finance, Šircelj emphasized his familiarity with the institution’s operations. “I come to the Ministry of Finance for the fifth time, so I know some people who are still there, I also know the work of the Ministry,” he stated. He further highlighted his background, incorporating experience gained from roles in the private sector.

The coalition agreement dictates that Šircelj will focus on establishing stable and sustainable public finances. He intends to ensure macroeconomic stability while adhering to European Union fiscal regulations. A key objective will be the management of the budget deficit, with a commitment to gradual reduction.

Šircelj affirmed his commitment to fulfilling the outlined goals, stating, “The Ministry of Finance will provide stable, sustainable and predictable public finances within the government, thereby ensuring macroeconomic stability while consistently observing EU fiscal rules.”
