Two people died in the storm, and it also hit during the christening

Severe Weather Impacts Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, Resulting in Fatalities and Injuries

Heavy rainfall across southern Germany led to a series of accidents and significant property damage throughout the year. In Bruchsal, Baden-Württemberg, a 65-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle due to aquaplaning in the intense downpour. The vehicle subsequently crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with another vehicle.

Tragically, the 55-year-old driver and 54-year-old passenger sustained fatal injuries as a result of the accident. The older driver was hospitalized with serious injuries. Elsewhere, severe weather conditions in Bavaria caused considerable damage.

In Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden, a tree fell onto a car, trapping the 15-year-old boy inside. Firefighters were required to rescue him from the back seat, and he was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Further incidents occurred in Lower Bavaria, where two couples were injured when a section of a construction ladder fell upon them at a church.

Additionally, in Bayreuth, a falling tree caused damage to multiple parked vehicles, estimated at approximately €25,000. These events highlight the dangerous conditions posed by the persistent heavy rain and underscore the importance of caution during inclement weather.

  1. This is a devastating tragedy, especially given the timing of the storm coinciding with a christening ceremony.
