An 80-year-old woman died after falling victim to a sophisticated fraud scheme, according to reports in German media. The woman, identified as a pensioner, was contacted by individuals posing as police officers who falsely claimed her property was under surveillance by a burglary gang. The con artists urged her to temporarily hand over her valuables, including almost 100,000 euros in cash and her family jewelry, for secure storage.
Believing the callers, the woman prepared to facilitate the transfer of her possessions. She ultimately entrusted her jewelry and the substantial sum of money to the perpetrators. Upon realizing the deception, she contacted her daughter, Bettina, in a state of shock.
Her final words, reportedly “Tine, Tine, my heart, my heart,” were heard before she succumbed to the devastating impact. Emergency responders arrived at the scene but were unable to revive her. Investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for this fraudulent operation.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of elderly individuals to deceptive tactics and the importance of verifying information, particularly when dealing with unsolicited calls claiming to be from law enforcement.
