Drivers report: Extend or reduce vignette prices

Slovenian Drivers Express Concerns Over Ljubljana Vignette Policy

Ljubljana – Drivers in Slovenia are raising concerns regarding the ongoing implementation and potential future changes to the city’s annual vignettes, according to a recent report from the Dirección de Autopistas y Suministro de Carreteras (Darsa). As of June 1st, over 345,000 annual vignettes will expire, prompting authorities to urge drivers to verify the validity of their current permits. The fine for operating a vehicle without a valid vignette remains at €300.

The current situation stems from a previous government decision to extend vignettes by four months at the end of 2025, a measure enacted to address extensive motorway works and significant traffic congestion. However, drivers are now expressing dissatisfaction with the current conditions. “We are standing, this is a parking lot, not an expressway,” stated one driver, reflecting a common sentiment.

The report highlights a perceived lack of progress in resolving traffic issues despite the extended vignette period. Darsa is advising drivers to check the expiration dates of their vignettes and to communicate their concerns to decision-makers regarding potential adjustments to the vignette system. The report emphasizes the need for effective traffic management strategies to improve expressway functionality.

This report underscores the ongoing challenges faced by drivers in Ljubljana and the importance of continued dialogue between authorities and the public regarding transportation infrastructure.
