Passenger Claims Second-Degree Burns Resulting from Hot Cruise Ship Deck
Jorge Luis Alverio Nunez sustained second-degree burns during a Carnival Magic cruise in May 2025. According to a lawsuit filed earlier this month, Mr. Nunez suffered the burns while walking barefoot from the ship’s pool to his assigned deck.
The lawsuit alleges that the deck surface reached temperatures that were unreasonably dangerous. It states that while passengers can anticipate some heat absorption from exposed deck surfaces in sunlight, Mr. Nunez could not have reasonably foreseen the extent to which the deck would heat up, causing severe burns within seconds of contact.
The legal document claims the conditions were dangerously hot. The lawsuit does not name the cruise ship. A spokesperson for Carnival commented on the situation, stating that the company does not comment on ongoing legal disputes.
The incident is currently under review. Mr. Nunez’s claim centers around the temperature of the deck.
