In a move aimed at challenging the diesel tractor market, Andreas Diess, CEO of Diess, predicts the development of a mid-range electric tractor designed for both agricultural and municipal applications. According to reports from krone.at, the core innovation will be a system utilizing replaceable batteries, enabling near-continuous operation – often described as “24-hour operation.”
The tractor is envisioned to be compatible with existing agricultural equipment, supporting standard connectors for attachments such as mowers and snow plows. Diess’s strategy focuses on immediate competitiveness with traditional diesel tractors.
A key element of the project involves harnessing electricity generated on-site, primarily through solar power, by farms themselves. This would allow farmers to utilize self-produced energy for their daily operational needs, reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Diess’s company is collaborating with established agricultural machinery manufacturers across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
