The end of the Spanish story at Rujevica: Sanchez is no longer the coach of Rijeka

Victor Sanchez Joins Rijeka Following Mixed Tenure with Olimpija and Rijeka

Victor Sanchez concluded his time with Olimpija Ljubljana following a period marked by administrative disagreements, leading to a transfer to Croatian club, Rijeka. Sanchez previously secured the Slovenian PrvaLiga title with Olimpija before a dispute with the club’s leadership prompted his departure. He joined Rijeka in September, stepping into the role previously held by Radomir Đalović.

Sanchez’s arrival coincided with Rijeka’s second national championship victory in the club’s history. However, the move initially faced some resistance from a segment of the club’s fanbase. Sanchez achieved notable success with Rijeka, guiding the team to the group stage of the Conference League.

He was primarily recognized for his performance in European competition, notably securing 16th place in the league, a first European success for Rijeka in 46 years. This accomplishment marked a significant moment for the club and its supporters. The move from Ljubljana to Rijeka represents a new chapter for Sanchez, building upon his previous achievements and contributing to the club’s ongoing development.

  1. This feels like a necessary change for both Sanchez and Rijeka after a somewhat turbulent period.
