Employees must inform the doctor of their sick leave on the same day

Slovenian Health Insurance Fund Clarifies Procedures for Hospitalized Sick Leave

The Slovenian Health Insurance Fund (ZZZS) has outlined updated procedures for individuals requiring inpatient or spa treatment and taking sick leave. According to Ana Vodičar, head of the field of decision-making on rights and medical devices at ZZZS, reporting the absence upon returning home is a mandatory requirement. The current regulations state that if an insured individual has been hospitalized, their sick leave is considered their rightful entitlement.

However, failure to report the temporary work absence will prevent the personal doctor from granting the sick leave back. Instead, the personal doctor can only forward the proposal to ZZZS. The designated doctor at ZZZS will then review the situation, assessing whether there were justifiable reasons for the delay in reporting the absence.

If special circumstances are presented, the designated doctor can resubmit the proposal for consideration. This process ensures a clear record of the sick leave period, with the ZZZS retaining the authority to investigate and confirm the validity of the absence. The guidelines emphasize the importance of timely reporting for individuals on sick leave.
