Max Verstappen chose one of the toughest challenges in motorsport instead of a rest at the weekend’s end – the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. The four-time world champion made his debut behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3 on the famous Nordschleife, but the promising story ended in disappointment. Verstappen was racing with Jules Gounon, Dani Juncadella and Lucas Auer, and the four-man team was long in the running for the top spots.
What’s more, Verstappen’s team was leading by more than a half-minute and everything looked like the Dutchman could have made an outstanding debut at this endurance classic. After Verstappen’s drive, the car was taken over by Juncadella, and then three hours and 20 minutes before the end, the team was cut off by a technical problem.
